Yamhill County was one of the first districts in Oregon and was officially named Yamhill in 1845, stemming from the Indian tribe ‘Yamhelas’. Most of the American immigrants who came over the Oregon Trail during 1843-1844 settled in Yamhill, which quickly became the agricultural center of the Willamette Valley. Today, Yamhill County has a population of over 108,000, and is ranked the 6th largest agricultural producer with over 160,000 acres of farmland.
