Lincoln County was named after President Abraham Lincoln, and officially became a county in 1893 from the western portion of Polk and Benton County.

Lincoln County was named after President Abraham Lincoln, and officially became a county in 1893 from the western portion of Polk and Benton County. The County’s seat is Newport, Oregon. The northern part of Lincoln County includes the Siletz Indian Reservation which was created by a treaty in 1855. The reservation was opened to settlement in 1895, and the tribal status was terminated in 1954, but reinstated in 1977. The reservation today has a total of 15,200 acres. To improve inland transportation, bridges and coastal highways were created in the early 1900’s. One famous bridge is The Yaquina Bay Bridge crossing from Newport, a beautiful structure that is well recognized among route 101 and is among 11 major bridges on the Oregon Coast.

 

With miles of beach and coastline, Lincoln County is one of the most popular visitor destinations on the Oregon Coast. The most common employment sectors in Lincoln County include Accommodations and food service, Healthcare and Social Assistance, and Retail. Some of the top employers are: Central Lincoln PUD, Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Georgia-Pacific-Toledo, Hallmark Inns & Resorts, Lincoln County School District, Mo’s Restaurants, OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center, Pacific Seafood, Rogue Ales and Spirits, Salishan Spa and Golf Resort, Samaritan Health Services and the Worldmark Club.

 

There are endless adventures in Lincoln County from colorful kite festivals, hand-blown glass floats, to exploring the miles of coastline. There are also historical museums / cultural centers, shopping, and dining. Some of the favorite beaches include Roads End State Recreation Site, Taft Bay and Nelscott beach. There are also many scenic trails in Lincoln County. Mo’s original restaurant was created in Lincoln City 75 years ago, and its famous seafood is wildly popular among Oregonians. The original restaurant is still open today and has expanded to other coastal towns. 

 

The population of Lincoln County is over 50,800 and has about 17 public schools, serving 5,000 students. The top-rated schools are Waldport Middle School, Lincoln City Career Technical High School and Toledo Senior High School. The median household income is $46,080, and the median house price is $549,00.
